What I Wish School Staff Knew! - Thursday 8th March 2024

We know our neurodivergent young people experience the world (including school) differently to neurotypical kids – but what does that mean in real life? We hear directly from young people as they explain their experience of attending schools in the Highlands and what they wish the adults around them could understand about it. Two former Highland students who are now Volunteers with NAS Highland Branch, Hannah Fraser-MacLean and Adam McLeod, also discuss how their experience of school has shaped their adult lives.

The Autistic Experience - Thursday 31st October 2024

Carrie Watts (FSW with Thriving Families) and Hannah Fraser Maclean, both volunteers with the NAS Scotland Highland Branch, talk about the lived reality of autistic people at home, at school, and out in the world. They discuss the critical importance in shifting our collective understanding of autism away from the commonplace deficit-based model and toward an affirming framework that centres the autistic experience. This talk will deepen your understanding of autistic processing, communication, masking, burnout, and how to identify strategies that support autistic needs.

The Neurodevelopmental Profile Wheel - Thursday 21st November 2024

The Neurodevelopmental Profile Wheel helps build a picture of your child’s strengths and challenges. The Wheel can be used by anyone looking to better help and understand a child. This includes those on the NDAS waiting list.

This film introduces the Wheel and how to use the films and worksheet. Using the resources you will have a picture of what is happening with your child, why it may be happening, and what support can be put into place. Presentation by Laurie Morrison (Educational Psychologist) and Carrie Watts (Family Support Worker with Thriving Families).

The 6 short films can be found on our Neurodevelopmental Profile Wheel page, together with the Profile Wheel Assessment Document and example Case Studies.
