ACE’s

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are stressful events occurring in childhood. This can be a repeating pattern of events or a single, powerfully traumatic incident. ACEs might also be referred to as ‘early’ or ‘developmental’ trauma.

NHS Health Scotland has produced this short animation to contribute to raising awareness about the impact of childhood adversity. We hope it can stimulate discussion about what action can be taken to both prevent and respond to early adversity.

Should you have any concerns about the child that you care for, contact your G.P and request a referral to CAHMS.

ACEs Increase Health Risks

According to the Adverse Childhood Experiences study, the rougher your childhood, the higher your score is likely to be and the higher your risk for various health problems later.
